You know firsthand the excitement, sense of adventure, critical thinking and problem-solving that happen each day in PLTW classrooms. Now, we are happy to announce another tool to complement your students' learning adventures: Engineering Alliance
PLTW, the Technology Student Association (TSA), and SkillsUSA have joined forces to develop Engineering Alliance, which adds a competition to each required course offered through the established PLTW curriculum. Students will now be able to compete in online contests and leadership activities that will reinforce problem-solving and critical thinking skills, as well as add an additional element of fun and friendly challenges to their lessons.
Engineering Alliance was developed in response to requests from PLTW teachers, as well as state career and technical education leaders who saw the need for a program that incorporates student competitions and leadership training in the PLTW curriculum. Communication and presentation ability, diversity, time management, goal-setting, organizational skills, continuous improvement, and teamwork are all addressed through leadership activities and e-learning modules.
PLTW instructors who participated in field testing of Engineering Alliance materials unanimously found that: this program adds value to lessons; competitions are high-level and cognitively rigorous, and; they would recommend Engineering Alliance to other PLTW teachers. Students gain additional motivation and recognition through a program that integrates seamlessly into your existing PLTW structure and is available completely online.
You can join Engineering Alliance right now. Your affiliation will allow you to use the program immediately during the current school year and through the 2010-2011 school year.
