Professional Development
AP Professional Development will be held in August 2011 this year. The
attached flyer shows the dates and locations of PD opportunities.
Registration will be done on-line. Just click on the link provided to
register. You'll receive a confirmation email as well as a follow-up
email reminding you of the time and location.
Budget -
AP funds have been cut from $3.1 million to $2 million.
We will be able to fund these programs:
- the July portion of the APSIs (our fiscal year is from July 1 to June 30
so we have to pay the July APSIs out of 2011-12 funds.)
- professional development for the school year 11-12 (these are the 1 day
PDs that we offer around the state)
- AP Grants - 1st & 2nd time grants, Vertical Team grants and Training
grants.
At this time, there are no funds for:
- $100 incentives to school districts for 3 or better scores on May 2011
exams - Test fee assistance for low-income or multiple test takers for May 2012
exams
- APSIs for June 2012
That's the bad news, but there is a ray of hope. The Superintendent is
amassing a list of program needs based on the cuts (including those AP
items listed) and is asking for corporate and private support for those
items. So, although you might not get AP Incentives in Sept or Oct, there
might be funds from corporations in Jan or Feb. Same goes for test fee
assistance and APSIs as well.
I am getting ready for my vacation during the 1st week of August so I
won't be available by phone, but you can email, and I will either answer
it during that week or on my return.
I hope you enjoy the last few days and weeks of your well earned vacation!
